DAY 6

Mini lessons: Teacher will teach what  "Repetition" is.  Just a reminder this is a working anchor chart and continues with what was taught in week 1. I have attached what it will look like when it is finished. I will teach one part each day. Click the picture for a link.  

  • Teacher will read a few fun poems from the book “Where The Sidewalk Ends” or "A Light in the Attic." 

  • Teacher will teach an Concrete poem. I got all my poem anchor charts on Teachers Pay Teachers. I will link it here. I can not share pictures on this because of copyright rules. I really love this product though.

  •  Then students will go to their desk and write their own concrete poem. 

  • Teacher will keep poems to make into a book at the end of the unit. The book will be published on Amazon. If you want info on how to do this, DM me. I would love to share.

DAY 10

Test day and fun Friday. 

Today we revewed what we went over during week 1. As a class we number their line brakes so that they will be prepared to answer the questions.  We also found the stanzas and pointed out other vocabulary we had learned during the week. 

  • Once they are done with the test, I pick it up and then we go over it together. 

  • I pass out all the poems that the students have written all week. Let the students pick out one poem to submit to the class poetry book. I have my students type out the poem they pick and submit it to me. We use an app called Class DoJo. There is a setting called "dojo portfolio" where I can assign an assignment to the students. On this app, they can type their poem and hand it in to me. I wanted the kids to really feel like they were the authors, and they truly did write and type their poems. I then took their work they handed in and copied and pasted it into the book format. If you want more info on Dojo Portfolio click the link HERE

  • I then gave my kids cookies and hot chocolate in coffee cups to go with our coffee house theme. 

  • I had students that wanted to read poems from Shel Silverstein, so we did some open mic night style reading. We then finished the last 15 min of class with some karaoke. The kids loved this. You can get on YouTube and type in any song title and put karaoke after it, and it will play a karaoke sing along for you.
