DAY 1

Studying Biography

Mini lesson: Teacher will make an anchor chart introducing biographies. I found this one on Pinterest. 

 

  • Teacher will read the book "The Tree Lady"

    • Teacher will introduce the SWBST summary form​at. I will link the one I use, just click the picture! 

    • I project this and we answered each question in a complete sentence.  Then I showed them how putting those sentences together makes a paragraph summary.

 

  • For “read to self “students will read biographies that I got from the library, and write a summary about what they read. Today they did not have to make it into a paragraph. They just had to answer the questions on the SWBST chart.  

  • I then let 2 or 3 students share their summaries to the class.

DAY 2

Studying Biography

    • Today the students will use the format to answer the questions and then copy that into a paragraph.

    • Teacher will walk around and help students as needed.

DAY 3

Studying Biography

Mini lesson: Teacher will go over the anchor chart introducing biographies. I found this one on Pinterest. 

 

  • Teacher will read the book "Magic Trash"

    • Teacher will go over the SWBST summary form​at. I will link the one I use, just click the picture! 

    • Today, the teacher will put the format on the projector and students will write a summary over Magic Trash on notebook paper.

    • Teacher will walk around and help students as needed.

    • I pulled out all my left over art supplies and put it at the front of the room. I told my students to make some art work out of the trash. 

      • I gave only 2 rules.​​​

      1. The summary has to be attached to the art work in some way.​

      2. The art has to be able to hang in the hall.
